WayWayBack: browse a site's whole history on a heat-map calendar

The Wayback Machine has archived a huge part of the web, but finding the right snapshot of a site is slow work. WayWayBack turns it into a calendar: search for a site, then walk its history from year to month to day.

The calendar

Every day cell shows how many times the site was captured, on a heat scale, so busy periods stand out at a glance. Years and months the archive reports as empty are marked with a ✕ and never requested.

Pick a day and you get the list of snapshots, with hour, minute and second filters that only offer times that actually exist.

Fast, with nothing in between

It uses the Wayback Machine's own calendar endpoints, fetches only the selected year and caches results locally. There is no server of mine in the middle: the app talks straight to web.archive.org, and everything it stores (stars, history, settings) stays on your device. No account, no tracking, no ads.

Search merges instant URL guesses with two optional keyless engines, Wikipedia (article to homepage) and npm (package to repository). You can also share a URL to WayWayBack from any app to jump straight to its archive calendar.

Install and licence

It is built with Flutter, so one codebase runs on Android, Linux, Windows and macOS. Android APKs are on GitHub releases (arm64-v8a for most phones), and the release APK comes from a reproducible build script; an F-Droid inclusion request is planned.

WayWayBack is GPL-3.0-or-later and independent: it is not the Wayback Machine and is not affiliated with the Internet Archive.
